hash 714 - brarri "good cave"
Hare: BeerSkuller
Where: just above the "explosive quarry" on the Brrari river; take Rruge Dibres northwest, pass on the left side of the large cemetery, cross the Brrari and continue through the canyon until reaching a large bunker building on the left and a quarry.
Description: A mountain hash with easy trails for the walkers. Steep in some areas, will require some exertion. Few thorns, little mud. The "good cave" is much smaller than the Pellumbas cave and doesn't have nearly as many cave structures, but it is still an interesting destination with spectacular views of the Bovila reservoir and the Erzeni/Brrari valley behind Mt. Dajti.

This week's HASH was a very special one for Stefan and me. The trails were very easy though the sky was turning darker by the minute, raindrops started falling and at some point we have to find shelter as the rain is coming down heavily.
The trail crossed over the property of a family living in a stunning nature setting. The mountains surround them, they have a beautiful view over the terraced agricultural plots. The family didn't mind us (approx 30 people) crossing at all, instead they invited us to help ourselves to the apples in their apple trees and tried to convince us to have coffee and raki with them instead of continuing our hike in this bad weather! Oh well, we continue, but at some point Stefan and I decided to stop, have lunch and then make our way back down, meeting the group at the starting point. While we're walking back the rain starts coming down harder and harder and by the time we reach the property we'd crossed earlier, we're starting to get really wet. The same family invites us to stay, have a coffee with them and sit out the rain. This was such a hear warming experience, through sign language and some words we managed to have quite a conversation, lots of laughter and just a fantastic afternoon. This family doesn't have much money, was actually observing the Ramadan (so didn't join us with coffee, but still made us some). The hospitality was just heartwarming and experiences like this are just one of the reasons why living here is so special.
