HARES: Gladiator and Twin Towers

DESCRIPTION: Nice beach with great views, with hiking trails into the rolling hills of Cape Rodon.

WHERE: A very secluded beach on the north side of the Rodon Penninsula.

DIRECTIONS: Take the Durres Highway out of Tirana and follow the road past the airport and to Fushe Kruje. Take the main national road toward Lezhe. Go 10 km north until you get to the sign for the village of Adriatik. There will be a partially completed overpass at the intersection, which is near the village or Mamuras. Turn left toward the village of Adriatik. The hares have promised to leave flour signs of how to go from there.

NOTE: The hares have never been here either, so this could be fun and challenging! When I was here last year, the roads were wet and muddy and I couldn’t get through to the beach – the roads finally got so bad I had to turn back. But ... this is Albania, and by now there could be a 4-lane highway and a McDonalds!

Don’t bet on it – I recommend 4-wheel drive vehicles only!

On-on!

Well, you win some and you lose some! When the hares finally got to the beach after navigating some awful roads, they found that the water was pretty dirty from the outflow of a small river. We decided to move farther north, to the Vain wetlands national park, and found a very nice beach off of a newly constructed road not far from the beach we had hashed on previously.
