Phone number for hares on duty
Hello hashers!
Webwimp here, with lots of greetings from rainy Aachen :)
I'm venturing to propose an idea, now that we don't have a "standard" phone number to call when the weather looks bad, or when someone gets lost :)
So, what about getting a prepaid cellphone number that would be used by the hare-on-duty for the day of the hash? The advantages I see are :
1) We can publish that number on the site without worrying about the privacy of the "owner" - unlike with our personal numbers
2) There is a well-known number to call, no matter who the hare is
Since the number will only get incoming calls, there will be no need for it to be "charged" more than a minimum "emergency call" amount, i.e. 500-1000 lek should suffice. We can get this money from the beer fund.
So, what do you think? Do you have other ideas? Is there even a need for a phone number to contact the hares, or am I thinking too much about a non-existent problem? Please write your comments below.

The idea its not bad but there many places during our hikes that there is no signal coverage for our mobile phones especially if about thinking about a cheap mobile service as Eagle that have not that much coverage everywhere, so I was thinking that having a high range walkie talkie during the hike it should be even better, high range walkie talkies work in a range of 4 miles when there are different quotas of surface and in a range of 10 miles when the terrain is open land. 2 walkie talkies synchronized in one of the 12-15 channels viable and that can be encrypted if programed by attaching the walkie talkie by attaching it via USB to the computer. Since hash during all the time its at max 3-5 miles max like the last one that full range was 2.6 I think its a valuable idea. I was about to buy 2 of them in the end of July and since Motorola have made them waterproof I can stop spending money on buying new mobile phones for hiking and will be a pleasure to set them in use of the Hash :) And also imagine that having a radio contact between people in base camp and the scouts can be fun too :P. I think a communication idea its needed people are loosing mobile phones over there hhaahaha :D
Hello Pilot!
The walkie-talkie idea is a good one, but it only allows hares to talk to each other. It is a completely different problem from what I meant. Plus, you could need a license for those frequencies, especially if the radios have encryption capabilities. (Remember we often hike near military importance areas - you do not want misunderstandings when you are alone as a hare, with a strange looking flour-bag in hand).
Now, the problem I'm trying to solve: Whenever the hash was in doubt due to the weather, or whenever people took the wrong turn while driving to the hash-start point, we used to call Beerskuller, whose number everybody knew, and who was a hare most of the time anyway. With Beerskuller gone, this possibility does not exist anymore. So, what I am trying to solve is last-minute communication BEFORE starting the hash, i.e. from 8.00 that morning until everyone is gathered at the On-start. (Incidentally, if someone gets lost during the trail, they can also call the hare on duty)
The costs are zero, because the number would not be used for outgoing calls by the hare; it will only accept incoming calls from hashers.
With that in mind, it doesn't matter whether we take the cheapest number or not - the incoming cost will still be zero. So just take the one with the best coverage. (In my experience in the hash, esp. with hash 680 when we got blocked, the only operator with good coverage was Vodafone, but you'd have to check with the other hashers).

Good morning Pilot and Webwimp!
These are some good ideas and suggestions, I am sure the in-coming Hash Master/Leader can organize a vote/discussion around it. Let's keep it in the agenda alongside naming some of our favourite hashers, where to cool the beer, how to punish hash-sinners, etc.
Thank you both for helping this Saturday's hashers post their directions.
Enjoy.
I think the idea of having a mobile phone for the Hare is a good one. So everyone has to register it and everyone will know it!
And as the cost will be zero, is good.I think Vodafone is the best option as it has the best coverage. This week I will talk with the Hash Master and we will decide on it. Also the cost of the mobile will be cheap as we can buy an old Nokia mobile (which is good as the battery can resist for 4-5 days, and this is important to the Hash).
Yesterday we had a Hash Meeting, but this Saturday I will be the Hare so I will discuss this issue with the Hash Master and the Hashers.
On On :)!
