What is it?

Hashing is a state of mind- a friendship of kindred spirits joined together for the sole purpose of reliving their childhood or fraternity days, releasing the tensions of everyday life, and generally, acting a fool amongst others who will not judge you or measure you by anything more than your sense of humor.

The Hash is an international group with branches in all countries (OK, maybe not Greenland!). It's an active social organization, whose members enjoy the outdoors, and who like to hike and explore places a little off the beaten track. You can go to the website of the International Hash, http://www.gthhh.com, to get some background. Our hash sites are generally within an hour of Tirana, but several times a year there will be an "away hash" to Ohrid, Montenegro, Sarande, etc. with an overnight stay. Oh, did I mention the parties?

Join us, make it a habit!

We meet every Saturday at 11:00 AM at a coffee bar next to Kolonat, called "Archea-Bar" (ex-"France 98") (JPG map - Google Earth - Google maps). We figure out who's driving and where we are going, load up the cars and leave by 11:30! The "Hares" are already at the site and have marked the trails with flour dots and other cryptic signs. Usually there are separate trails for "walkers" (gentle, easy, comfortable, but not always paved or without obstacles) and for "runners" (somewhat more challenging!). The trails are designed to take about 1 1/2 hours. Everyone meets back at the start point for a little ritual called "The Circle." We then return to Tirana (typically by 4 PM) and go out for lunch at the traditional hash watering hole, the Chicken Shack! Some of the hashers then meet at a pub or other place for a spot of dancing and socializing.

Logistics

There is no fee to participate in the Tirana Hash. You need to bring your own water bottle, drinks, sandwiches, food, etc. and provide your own transportation. While there may be space in someone’s car, this is not always the case, so if you do not have a sure ride, you should connect up with others who can call a minibus if needed.

We will soon begin selling Hash Trinkets - water bottles, T-shirts, caps, etc. each Saturday.

Notices of the upcoming Saturday hash are usually posted Thursday night. Please check this site regularly for other events, classified ads, etc. Also, please read the documents on common sense hashing and heat stroke. If you have something to post, please register and you will be authorized to post comments and hash announcements.
