Hello and welcome!
these pages are intended to show you how to share pictures, stories, etc with your fellow hashers. Read them when you have time - you'll be able to contribute more and make this site better for everybody.
On-On!
**UPDATE**: We now have some tips on how to add things to the website. To read them, go to http://www.tiranahash.com/content/how-use-website
Hello everybody!
Just a quick reminder of how to best use this site:
1) Look around & explore the links! For a quick overview read the summary boxes to the right, where you will find the upcoming events, forum topics, pictures, polls, and recent comments. You can leave comments wherever they are enabled, but they will need to be approved before being published.
2) Register & login. This will enable you to post lost & found notices, as well as to contact everybody else directly. You can again leave comments, but they will again need to be approved. When you log in, your account menu will be in the lower right sidebar. Click on "My Account" & fill in the other info if you want. At least put a picture of yourself so we know who you are.
3) When we are not too drunk to recognize your picture or email address, we'll vest extra powers on you :) An extended menu will become available in the lower right sidebar. You will be able to:
-post unmoderated comments
-create and participate in forums-
-create advertisements for selling/buying stuff
-set up event notices (e.g a concert/movie/party you know of, that the others would probably enjoy, or a weekday run you are planning)
-create "stories" of your impressions about any particular hash and insert your flickr/picasa picture galleries in them.
-add pages to the expat guide
-attach files to all of the above (doc/pictures/maps etc.)
We are sorry we can't allow you to do all these immediately after registering, but we need to keep this site healthy and clean while at the same time keeping it freely accessible. To that aim, we only allow full access only to those people who we know to be hashers (i.e. have come at least once to the hash), rather than to everybody who registers.
If you have a suggestion, by all means send it in - whether by leaving a comment, or by contacting us via the contact link on the main menu above. We'll deal with it promptly (that is, as soon as we've finished our beers :)
See you on the trail!
On-on!
1) Copy the album's web address from the browser.
When you visit the album on the web at picasaweb.google.com, the browser's address bar shows something like "http://picasaweb.google.com/YourUserName/YourAlbumName". Copy that address (right-click, copy)
2) Login to the hash site if you have not yet logged in; then go to the page where those pictures belong (i.e. click your way around THIS site until you go to where you want to put the pictures)
3) Add a comment. Write something like "Webwimp's pictures from hash 999" so we know what they are. Then type a pair of brackets [], and between them paste the address you copied. Spaces between the brackets are not important. You should end up with something like this
-----------------
Webwimp's pictures from hash 999
[http:// picasaweb.google.com/YourUserName/YourAlbumName]
-----------------
Save your comment. That's it - The pictures will show automatically.
ALTERNATIVE WAY:
From your menu to the lower right, choose "Write", then "story". Write something about your experience on that hash. Funny things, interesting stuff about the area, whatever you can contribute is welcome. Then, to insert the pictures, paste the album's address somewhere, surrounded by brackets (just as above). E.g.
-------------------
Today we were at the Pellumbas Cave. It's the second largest cave in the Balkans... story continues...
And here are some pictures
[http:// picasaweb.google.com/YourUserName/YourAlbumName]
-------------------
Save the story. (Save button is at the end of the page. You can leave everything else at its default value).
Any activity that has a date and time is an event. This includes concerts, movies, hashes, after-hash parties, anything that has a starting time and date. To share such events with your hasher friends, add them to this website and they will be automatically published.
NOTE: You must be logged in to add such events. Only those whom we have verified to be hashers can add content to this website.
1) Login
2) On the lower right, in your menu, click "write" and then the appropriate type of event - social, cultural, etc.
3) Enter a title for the event, for example "Ranchhands Concert at Academy of Arts"
4) In the field "hashspeak" write some keywords to categorize it. For our example these would be "concert, classical music, cultural".
We recommend to at least put the keyword "cultural" on any cultural event, the keyword "socialize" for parties, karaoke, football matches, etc., and the keyword "hash" for hashes. This will allow the system to categorize these events appropriately.
5) Enter a short description of the event, e.g. "Country music band Ranchhands performs at Academy of Arts on Sunday 1 June, 19.00. Free entrance, cocktail to follow"
6) Choose the correct starting date and time for the event. If it is necessary to show the ending date and time, set it appropriately. (E.g. if the event is overnight and people need to know this in order to plan ahead)
7) Click the "Save" button at the end of the page.
That's it. Everything else is automatic and the event will be published on the site, as well as synchronized on the calendars.
---------
ADVANCED USAGE:
If you want to attach files (e.g. a map, pictures, PDF invitations) to the text you just wrote, click on "File attachments", click "Browse", select your file(s), and "Attach" it/them before finally "Save"-ing.
If you want to add one or two pictures, just add them as attachments. If you would like to include a Picasa album, write or paste its address in between brackets e.g.
-----------------------
Concert at Academy of Arts by Ranchhands. Entrance free
Some pics of their previous concerts:

You may play with the other settings too - but you should not need to.
On On!
Hello everybody!
With the summer coming and lots of parties and get-togethers on the horizon, I added to the site the ability to sign up for events. I know we're a very informal group, but you wouldn't like to show up to a party and find out the beer is finished, would you? ;) So, when you post an event here on the site, you will have the option to insert a "signup sheet".
How to do this? While writing up your event, click on the section "Signup Settings" and choose "Enabled". (You may fill in extra details too, but this is the only necessary step). Post the event as usual. Later, when you want to see who has signed up, just log in and read the page you wrote. The list will be there under its own "Signups" tab.
To sign up for a test event, so you can see how easy it is, click here: http://tiranahash.com/content/test-event-sign-sheet . Everyone can sign up, whether they are registered on the site or not. The list is private and visible only to the event organizer.
As usual, suggestions are welcome.

Webwimp.
No matter whether you are registered or not, you can add the hash calendar to your calendar software.
-in Google Calendar, look to the list of calendars to the left, there should be a link that says "Add". click on it and choose "Add from URL". When it asks for a public calendar address, enter this link:
http://tiranahash.com/event/ical
Your Google calendar will now always be in sync with this site's calendar. However you can go one step further, and get reminders automatically even if you forget to check the calendar. So, to get automatic reminders:
1. click on settings (top right)
2. click on Calendars tab
3. click on the "notification" link next to the "Tirana hash..." calendar.
4. set the time when you want to be reminded
5. click save. Now you will get reminders of hash events automatically (but do not forget to visit the Tirana Hash site often anyway, because lots of other information is available only through the site)
- in other calendar applications (Thunderbird, Outlook, Mac iCalendar etc.) the procedures vary, but if you use these programs, you almost certainly know them. The URL link is always the same: http://tiranahash.com/event/ical
Thunderbird users may want to experiment with this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/sunbird/addon/4631
The procedures for setting reminders in your program also vary, but a good place to start is to right-click on the imported calendar and choose something similar to "Settings", "Properties", or "Configure"
- You can also import events to your calendaring application by just clicking on the link "Import in your calendar" on any event list. However, the steps to follow after this will usually vary according to the software you're using. This method does not guarantee the calendar will be continuously synchronized - this is up to your application.
To add a classified ad, just like with any other type of posting, you should follow the following steps:
a) log in
b) to the lower right of the sidebar you will see several commands, among them "Write classified ad". Click on it
c) fill in the fields, e.g title "Selling: whatever" or "Buying: whatever", choose the appropriate category, and then write the description/full details.
d) IF you want to attach pictures, and they are not too big, then please scroll down and click on "File attachments". Then upload a few pictures. Again, PLEASE do not put huge pictures because it will cause too much load on the server.
e) when you are finished attaching pics, scroll further down and click on "save".
That's it - your notice will appear automatically on the correct places in the site.
When you write something, please choose the appropriate type, i.e. Write->Hash notice, or Write->Poll or Write->Story. This makes it possible to classify content automatically, and enables useful options for the things you write.
The hash notice is to be used only for hash notices. It does NOT need any reminders of when to come or what to take, because it has a reminders block on top of it. It will also automatically show up in the "Upcoming events" box to the right and in the calendar.
Write->Event or Write->Social event or Write->Cultural event is to be used for anything which has a date and time and place but is not a hash run. This includes mismanagement meetings, balls, films, matches, parties and so on. These will also show up automatically in the calendar.
Write->Story is for anything that does not need to show up in the calendar, for example things that happened in the past, things that do not have a date, mismanagement minutes, opinions etc. etc.
Write->Poll is for anything where people must vote. You may include instructions on what the options mean, or where to find additional information. You may also include attachments.
